Woven sling

From the parent's perspective, it's easy to set up and meets the baby's alternating needs (getting on and off). It allows you to have at least one arm free for everyday tasks and provides more open space in front of you than if the baby is carried on your front.

From the baby's perspective, they have a wider field of vision while maintaining close contact (vision and body) with their parent. This allows them to discover the world safely (without the harmful overstimulation of facing the world) and to be attentive to everything you do… they love it!

Hip carrying is comfortable if it is adjusted to your body shape, meaning it is tight enough against you and the fabric wraps well around the shoulder; otherwise, it can quickly become uncomfortable!(see blog post)

After familiarizing yourself with the equipment, you can carry your baby on your hip from birth using a sling, wrap, or baby carrier. With the Hop'la carrier, you will need to wait until your baby is 6 months old and has good back support.

The My Sling, made of knitted cotton, is a very enveloping, soft, and cozy baby carrier. Its stretchiness limits it to use only during the baby's first year.

The other ranges are made of fabric, which allows them to offer greater support, more precise adjustment, and to be more durable since there is no real weight limit to respect.
Classic cotton slings with broken twill weave are the basic and versatile ranges.
Jacquard ranges offer a more complex weave, allowing for a more aesthetically pleasing pattern. Jacquard slings are also more supple, soft, and easier to adjust.
The Seacell ranges combine cotton and seaweed viscose, giving them a feeling of freshness and fluidity that makes the fit even more precise.
Finally, the monochrome range, being made from a thicker and denser fabric, is intended for carrying older and heavier children (minimum 6 months).

Because sling carrying is asymmetrical, the load rests on only one shoulder, making it generally less comfortable than its counterparts that distribute the load over both shoulders.

The sling is designed for short periods of use; it is an ultra-practical baby carrier that is easy to put on and sets up very quickly, making it ideal for emergency carrying, a quick errand, or a trip to school/nursery.
While it may be less comfortable than other carriers, it's not actually used at the same time and remains much more pleasant than carrying in your arms. No one uses a wrap for just 5 minutes, but a sling does: it allows the wearer to be relieved at a time when they would have remained carrying in their arms, reducing the feeling of weight and thus protecting their body.

Two phenomena are intertwined in this problem:
- The adjustment necessarily brings the baby closer to the rings
- The more slack there is in the material initially, the more the adjustment will cause the system to move

The first tip is to start with a sling as close as possible to its final adjustment, with the bottom seam slightly tight to secure the baby at the beginning of the process, and conversely, a looser top seam to allow the baby to easily get over the bottom. The final adjustment in this case will be quite snug, and the effect of bringing the baby closer to the rings will be minimal.

The second tip is to completely off-center the baby at every stage of the process: if you start by reaching in front of you to pick up your little one and then shift your position, you'll pull the fabric and therefore the rings with you! Don't hesitate to aim for the hip from the start, reaching your hand past the breast or chest, and position your baby further back than where you intend to carry them, as the adjustment will bring them slightly forward. It's really the baby's bottom that should be positioned to the side: if you only shift the baby's head, they'll end up crooked.

Bonus tip: once baby is sitting on the rope formed by the gathered sling, before spreading the material behind their back, take the time to check that your rings have not slipped down and if they have (it happens even to the best!), correct the situation by lifting baby a little so that you can bring the rings up without pulling them up with the material.

Simply put, no matter how you do it, at this stage your baby should be positioned as far back on your hip as possible and your rings as far away from him as possible, towards the tip of your shoulder.

NB: at the end of the installation, the baby will inevitably be off-center: there is not enough room on the chest to have the baby centered and the rings.

No. The sling can be used on either side without needing to be disassembled. The same sling can be used without any problems by both parents, even if they are not carrying the baby on the same side.

While in theory nothing prevents switching sides, in practice most people are generally very lateralized, and using the "wrong" side is like writing with your non-dominant hand. Is it possible to switch sides?
As you might have guessed, the installation is likely to be quite laborious, and the comfort upon arrival will be completely lacking! It's a bad idea disguised as a good one.

The rings are positioned on the shoulder on the side you wish to free.
If you are right-handed, 95% of the time it is the right arm: so you will have the rings positioned on the right shoulder, and the baby nestled on your left side (you have to imagine that on the baby's side you cannot do much).
If you are left-handed… it all depends on how much you were upset about it as a child! The distribution is closer to 50/50, the simplest thing is to try to imagine in several everyday situations which arm you would like to use mainly, or to pick up your baby and see which side you feel more comfortable holding.
If you are truly ambidextrous, in theory you could alternate between the two sides, but in practice it is often advised to choose one so that muscle memory can play its role and the installations become automated without having to think about the direction each time.

If you are really unsure, don't hesitate to try both sides several times to see which one suits you best.

While in theory it would be possible to use rings to transform a scarf into a sling and thus invest in only one baby carrier to have two, the practice is quite different.
- The scarf in question must have a composition that allows it to be used as a sling (for some knits, for example, it will not be safe)
- The scarf measures on average 4.60m, whereas to make a sling you only use a maximum of 2m: this results in at least 2.60m of excess material which will hinder its use

Generally speaking, the sling is intended to be a practical and quick way to put it on; setting up the rings takes time and is difficult to anticipate: tying the scarf directly is generally faster!

A baby carrier wrap is a large rectangular piece of fabric or knit, at least 3.60 meters long, with pointed ends. With a baby carrier wrap, you can create several different carrying positions and carry your baby in a front, back, or off-center position. It's a very versatile and comfortable system, but best suited for extended periods of carrying.

The sling is made of the same materials as wraps, but it's only 1.90m long and has a pair of rings sewn onto one end. It's worn across the body and is easier to adjust. It's a fairly simple and extremely practical system for everyday carrying, but it's not designed for extended periods of carrying.

The fabric used to make the scarves consists of a very specific weave (broken twill) used only in babywearing and not found in general fabric stores.
A simple piece of fabric cannot be used because it doesn't behave as intended for comfortable carrying: it's too rigid lengthwise and widthwise (causing chafing), and too soft diagonally (deforming and not providing adequate support). The material must also be flexible enough to allow for proper adjustments.
