Hop'la, Backup Carry

The hop'là is a support for carrying a baby in your arms. It helps relieve the wearer's arms but is not designed to support more than the baby's pelvis and therefore requires keeping one arm behind your back.
The hop'là method does not allow you to completely let go of your child.

The Hop'là is designed for carrying babies with good back muscle tone and who can hold their head up. We recommend waiting until your child is 6 months old before starting to use it.

The size depends on the wearer's build. It is measured while wearing clothes that aren't too thick, as recommended for babywearing. It doesn't increase as the child grows, so there's no need to buy a larger size in anticipation.
When first put on, the hop'là may seem tight, but being a little elastic, it will stretch a lot with the weight of the child.
If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one.

To stabilize the carrier, ensure the material is properly positioned in the hollows of the baby's knees. Do not attempt to extend it up their back; the carrier is designed to support only the thighs and buttocks. This allows the child to adopt a physiological posture with their knees higher than their hips, preventing them from slipping through the carrier.

From the parent's perspective, it's easy to set up and meets the baby's alternating needs (getting on and off). It allows you to have at least one arm free for everyday tasks and provides more open space in front of you than if the baby is carried on your front.

From the baby's perspective, they have a wider field of vision while maintaining close contact (vision and body) with their parent. This allows them to discover the world safely (without the harmful overstimulation of facing the world) and to be attentive to everything you do… they love it!

Hip carrying is comfortable if it is adjusted to your body shape, meaning it is tight enough against you and the fabric wraps well around the shoulder; otherwise, it can quickly become uncomfortable!(see blog post)

After familiarizing yourself with the equipment, you can carry your baby on your hip from birth using a sling, wrap, or baby carrier. With the Hop'la carrier, you will need to wait until your baby is 6 months old and has good back support.
